Gift for Baby

My niece had a baby boy in October and we were invited to see everyone at my brother and sister-in-law's house. I had already decided to give them a gift card along with an ornament but decided to ask the kids what we should get the baby. We were all in the car...

Me: "What should we get the baby?"

12 year old: "Clothes or a pacifier."

6 year old "A toy!"

Dad: "Well we are going to Sears, how about a chainsaw?"

Kids together, "Nooooooooo!"

6 year old, "That is too loud and too dangerous for the baby."

Me "I know, a riding lawn mower... after all it is a boy!"

6 year old "Mom, the baby does not know how to drive yet!"

Me "How about a microwave or a dishwasher?"

Nooooooo!

Dad, "An ax! Surely the baby would love an ax"

6 year old, "No, dad, that is a bad idea."

Dad, "Ok, I got it...a lighter to light the fireplace!"

6 year old, "Dad, a lighter is too dangerous and the baby does not know how to 'Stop, Drop, and Roll' yet!"

He is right, he has not rolled over yet, maybe for Christmas!

How to get a Christmas Tree

Yesterday the four of us were sitting in the family room and the topic of getting the Christmas tree came up. We usually go to some lot in the city looking for a ten-twelve foot tree. Pete asked how we would feel about going to a tree farm and cutting down our own tree.

12 year old, "I don't wanna do that."

Me "Why not?"

12 year old, "Too much work and no fun."

Pete "How do you know if you have never gone?"

12 year old, "I like the way we always do it."

6 year old "I don't wanna do that either!"

Pete, "OK, why don't YOU want to do it?"

6 yr old "It is too dangerous!'

Pete, "How is it too dangerous?"

6 year old "You use a chain saw!"

Pete "No you don't, you use a hand saw."

12 year old, "That will take too long to cut down and it will be too cold out!"

Me "You get to go on a hay ride and..."

12 year old "I don't wanna go on a hay ride"

Pete "They also serve hot chocolate! We do not even have to cut it, they will cut it down for us if we ask. THen we put it on top of the car and we drive home."

This conversation went much longer and ended with the parents saying "We are going to do this and you will like it!"

Jeesh....who ever thought kids would be so upset about going to a tree farm to cut down a Christmas tree????

What do you believe?

Last night after my daughter and I went to Kohll's and found absolutely nothing, we sat in the middle of the mall waiting for the boys to get done with their shopping. She had a banana strawberry smoothie and I had a choc. chip cookie dough ice cream waffle cone. We were talking about people who complain all the time even though they have pretty good lives. It seems like they are always down no matter what. She said she is always happy no matter what and this from a girl who was in the hospital last week. Then she said, "I figure as long as you are nice to people and you believe in God, no matter what happens, things will be good in the end."

Couldn't have said it better myself.
