Family Update

The daughter is home sick today with a cold and constant cough and the stuffiest nose I ever saw. My son had a good day at school (whew!).

Today I decided to hack back the lilac bush. According to every thing I read, one is not to trim the lilac bush until after it blooms but the bush is so huge and once the leaves come out, the bees are out and it is usually too hot which is why I have not trimmed before. But today was the day....I had finished raking (thatching) the front lawn mostly because my neighbors did theirs this weekend and they have enough dead foliage on the street in front of their house I had to put something out. Then I saw the saw in the garage laying on a table so I grabbed it and headed over to the bush and started sawing away around the bottom.

Come to find out, there are two bushes growing together and a couple of trees and started growing. I left the middle so I will stil get some blooms this year. Two hours later I finished and my pile of foliage is bigger than theirs!

Ok, I can hear my mother scolding me for the attitude so I will stop.

Tomorrow I will edge the lawn and maybe cut some more bushes or tree limbs off...there is something exhilarating about cutting off old, dead timber.

The kids each got some money in their easter eggs they found this past weekend. We went to Toys R Us tonight so they could each purchase something. My daughter headed to the stuffed animal section. She came back with a spotted cat. She said at first she was not going to get it but she noticed the thread was coming off one of the paws and that no one would want it because of it so she took it.

Happy Birthday Pennie

Today is my sister-in-laws birthday! We will not see her today because we are going to my mom's for an easter egg hunt since we did not get to go to her house on easter. So, if you see Pennie or talk to her, wish her Happy Birthday. She is beautiful, bright, funny and a good friend not to mention a great aunt to my kids...they just LOOOOOVVVEEEEE her!

Hotel time

The other day we spent the whole day at home. The kids decided to play hotel. In the loft is a trunk my daughter uses as the front desk and an antique looking phone that really works. My son sat next to her with a laundry basket turned upside down as his desk and he had a package of mint gum he was selling for 3 cents.

I went upstairs to take a bath and took my cell phone. I 'checked in' and bought a piece of gum. I was then shown my room. While taking a bath I called the front desk from my cell phone and asked to speak to the 'nice young man selling the gum'.

"Yeah...whaddya want?"

"I would like another piece of gum delivered to my room, please."

"Well, I do not want to waste all my gum!" Click.

So much for the nice young man selling the gum.

procrastinators

I always get on my husband's case because he procrastinates but I am also guilty of this personality trait. For instance, twenty years ago I read about a procrastinators club I could join but if you sent the paperwork in too soon, you were not allowed to join. I still have not sent in for the paperwork.

I was one of those people who did a college paper the night before it was due and still hoped to get an A on the paper (happened once probably because it was a rookie instructor).

Right now I cannot get in my closet because of the heap of clothes on the floor I need to go through. I promised myself I would go through it this week and get it done. The only problem is (there is always a problem for us true procrastinators) is I have to wait until the family gets home in case I do not come back and they need to send in a search party. Hubby suggested I tie a rope to myself so I can find my way out but finding a rope could take days. I will leave a note, just in case so they can send in a search dog.

Now I have talked myself into attempting it...I will do it...but first I am taking a bath. I know I should wait until AFTER but I am taking it now...then the closet....well then it will be time for lunch so after lunch....for sure.

"oh no"

Today my five year old had a hard day in school...not listening, etc. I told him he was going to have to do better otherwise the easter bunny might not come. He said, "Oh no.....coal from the easter bunny...."

My daughter was telling me about how she was having a tough time with the sewing machine in school. When the teacher said to her, "I thouht you knew how to work this machine!" to which my daughter thought, " Ah, there is a reason I am taking the class! Hello?""
