Honeymoon Memory

Thirteen years ago when we got married, we decided to have a small wedding and spend money on the honeymoon. We decided to fly to the east coast, rent a car, a stay in bed and breakfasts in the northeast. Once place we stayed at, we were waiting to be seated for dinner and hubby ordered a bottle of wine. I looked over at him and he was drinking the wine right out of the bottle!

The scary thing is, I did not think it was inappropriate until he mentioned it later!

It is no wonder we get along so well....

Have a good one!

The Weekend

You know, you just cannot beat a good weekend. Sometimes we wait for Monday to start so the routine gets back to normal. Other times we have so much to do, the weekend goes by way too fast. But this weekend, was just about perfect.

The kids were off Thursday and Friday, Hubby took off Friday. We had family game night, played tennis, got pumpkins, went to church, watch the Packers win, took the kids to a Halloween Party at out church (see below, the girls, daughter and friend, went as rock stars and the son went as a knight performer....a combination of Darth Vader, a firefighter and a knight). and finally, carved the pumpkins.

The kids wore rubber gloves while performing surgery on their patients, to rid them of all the "ucky, yucky, icky guts". We all pretended we were surgeons operating on our patients.

Finally, the jack-o-lanterns were lit (spent more time looking for candles to put in the dang things) we took pictures and even a video where my son sang the latest pumpkin song he learned at school.

Let's not forget the extra hour of sleep we got.

Cannot get much better than this weekend.

Marshmallow Peeps

Anybody else out there love marshmallow Peeps like I do? Seems like most people either love'em or hate'em. In fact, I am the only person I know that loves them so I would really be happy to have someone else in the same boat (so I can share).

They used to only make them for Easter but now they make them for all the holidays....even Valentine's Day. Today I bought some ghost Peeps....I like to open the package and let the peeps get crusty because they are so much better when they are stale.

Family Update: Hubby stayed home today since the kids were off of school. We finally went and bought our pumpkins. It was a nice fall day. We played Scrabble tonight. It is the first time in a long time we had a family game night. (Kind of funny because the 11 year old came up with 'daft' and 'dung'). The five year old threw away an empty bag (did not leave it in the cupboard) and the other one changed the garbage without me asking...must be a full moon. Tomorrow the kids want to play tennis before the weather gets too cold.

Have a good one!

Buyer Beware

Last week in our newspaper, there was an article about an auction company who was hired to clean out someone's house and auction off all the items to go to the owner's estate. The owner, an elderly woman, is in a home and unable to communicate.

While going through the house, they discovered what 'could be' an painting by Jackson Pollack, the artist whose work looks like someone splattered paint on a canvas. The owner's sister said if she had seen it while she was cleaning the house, she would have thrown it away.

Today I saw on the crawl at the bottom of the tv screen, the painting sold for
$53,000. It is sold on a 'buyer's beware' because it may not actually be a Pollack but if it is, it will bring much more on the market. Some of his work has sold for millions.

The moral of the story is do not have your relatives clean out your house!(I am sure my family will be relieved to hear this because our house would be a nightmare and I am sure the million computer/electronic pieces are worthless because where we live we have to pay to dump them).

Family Update: The kids are off school today and it was nice to sleep in for a change...I think it was what we all needed. This weekend we turn our clocks back an hour and this will help greatly when we have to get up at six to see the oldest off to school since we are both having a hard time getting up then. I know all you early birds are laughing at us but we are truly a family of night owls.

An Advertising Idea for Super 8

I have a great idea for an ad for the Super 8 hotel chain.

The commercial starts out with a family of four and they are looking for a hotel. They stop at one place but it is way too expensive so they go to another place....very nice, has everything they want, a pool, hot tub, and breakfast, but again, too much money.

The family goes on and decides to try Super 8. THey have everything the family wants, indoor pool? YES Hot tub? Yes! Breakfast? Of course!

The price is affordable and the family takes the room. The next morning at breakfast while eating his bagel, the five year old says, "This is the fanciest hotel ever!"

This is what happened to us and I could not agree more...

My Box!

As most of you parents of young children know, if there is an empty box around, they ( the kids) want it. Yesterday, my five year old got a big wheel (not really because he hit a kid at school during recess so hubby put it together in front of him and he is not allowed to ride until he does better in school but that is a whole 'nother post). So, there sit this wonderful box. I see it and immediately claim it as mine to put things in it for goods I want to donate.

On the side of the box is a picture of a big wheel. My son asks me what I am going to put in the box. I reply "Clothes for people who can use them."

His response. "Hey mom, wouldn't it be funny if a kid saw the box and opened it up thinking he got a big wheel but it was clothes? He would be really, really mad!"

Yeah, I would be ticked, too.

Family Update:
My vision has really been giving me trouble lately so that is why I have not been posting much lately. I hope it is only because I have not been sleeping well and not a permanent change....time will tell.

We are going to visit the in-laws and get another load of boxes and help them pack. This is our fourth trip in four months...pretty good for us. We may get pumpkins, too. We need to be back for Sunday school so my daughter can find out what part she got in the Christmas play. She actually auditioned and sang in front of three judges...she has never sung before in public so I am really proud of her!!!!

A Thanksgiving Story

There were a number of years when I was in high school, my mother would invite a relative to eat with us on Thanksgiving. She lived an hour out of town but worked in town and always had to work the day after Thanksgiving so she would stay with us.

The trouble was, this woman was a non-stop talker. After we made it through the wonderful meal (mom is a great cook and we are eating at her house this year) my brother and I had rented two movies to watch. We all gathered in the family room (except for my father who was downstairs at the bar) to watch the first movie. I cannot tell you the name of the movie or what it was about because our guest talked the entire time!

As my brother went to put in the second movie, I was frustrated. I decided I was going to say something. The second movie was Spielberg's 'E.T.'...you know, 'E.T phone home'. So, I said out loud not to anyone in particular, "OK, there is no talking during this movie." I stole a glance at my mother who was not happy with me because I was being rude. I then looked at my brother who had the normal "my sister is wacko' look on his face but I did not look at our guest who was sitting in a recliner rocker behind me in the corner.

The movie starts...I hold my breath. We watch the first five minutes of the credits and as the story begins there is lots of music. I start to think to myself, maybe I accomplished my goal because there was silence from the back corner of the room. I get my pillow and settle down to watch the movie.

All of a sudden, I hear from behind me, our guest says, "I didn't know E.T. was a silent film!"

Shoot me....shoot me now....some people just do not get it.

David vs Goliath

Above is the picture I was supposed to post yesterday. Hubby did it for me!

I had a couple of serious subjects I was going to blog about today but decided against it because I am a little too emotional about it right now. This brings me to a very siily discussion about my little toe (David) against the rest of my body (Goliath).

It all started innocently enough a week ago when I went on my walk( four miles) and I had not cut my toenails so one was digging in to the side of my other toe. But, this was on my other foot. As soon as I got home, I trimmed all my toenails, not a favorite job of mine as my regular readers know.

Then, yesterday my walk friend called to see if I wanted to go on our usual route so I said "Yes, as soon at hubby and daughter get home from the Packer game" which had a dreadful ending to a game we should have won.

About halfway through the walk little toe on my other foot was slicing into toe next to it. I tried to wiggle my toes to see if I could get it to stop piercing my toe but it was almost like a jagged saw that did more damage the more I moved it. I finally get home and take off my sock and the toe is all cut up and bruised while my little toe is perfectly fine and, I think, smiling !

A couple hours later I get into the tub for a hot bath and my cut up toe screams in pain while the little toe seems to be takinga relaxing soak. This morning I get up and actually hobble down the stairs. "That is it!" I said out loud, stomp into the bathroom and put a bandaid over the little toe (after clipping the sharp edge I must have left the last time I clipped it) and 'Voila'...no more pain, no more sassy little toe. I was going to bandage the cut up toe, but why punish it when it has done nothing so covering up the naughty toe will work just as well at protecting bullied toe.

Time to pay the bills...bye for now...oh for all those who are wondering, hubby decided to wait a bit before buying a computer because he thinks the one he was going to buy will be obsolete soon.....whew...otherwise the only thing under the Christmas tree this year would have been the needles that fell off the tree!.

Today in the paper I read about the funeral of the man who shot and killed the Amish girls and then turned the gun on himself. Half of the people who showed up for his funeral were Amish. I really think and hope people all over the world who have read or heard about this will learn a valuable lesson about forgiveness. I know I did.

Family Update: Hubby and daughter are at the Packer game. THey took a friend of my daughter and her dad who also happens to like football so I think the guys will have a good time being with someone who enjoys the game and the girls will have fun just being together and watching the crowds.

Yesterday we saw the in-laws for a bit. THey seemed to be giddy with excitement over the move and their car...it was nice to see.

The five year old came home Friday with a pumpkin and a bag a apples he picked when his class went to the apple orchard (he said they had to 'twist and pluck' five apples and then get one more to eat right then.) As soon as we got home from school we carved out the pumpkin which took about five minutes because it was the size of a large orange. It turned out cute and we took a picture which I hope to post tonight or tomorrow.

Bye for now!

When will I learn?

Right now, I am slightly annoyed with myself because I never seem to learn the lesson that I constantly put upon myself.

One is I told hubby since he has not had a new computer in a long time, he could get a new one. He had told me how they had come down in price and are really cheap, blah, blah, blah....

My friend needs a new computer and he found one for her that comes with a monitor and a printer for under $500. Of course, the one he wants for himself is $1500!!! It does not even have a monitor (got a new one last year for Christmas) or a printer. What!!!??? What happened to the lower price? $1500 is not a lower price when it is more than the one he bought before. This always happens, he says something, I agree and then I regret it later.

The lesson I have not learned is if I give the go ahead to get something, don't whine about how much it is going to cost because I already gave the go ahead. (He deserves it because he has been doing well saving money by taking a lunch every day to work).

The other lesson I have not learned yet happens late at night. I am in bed sound asleep when I wake up and I am cold. Hubby has rolled over and take the blankets with him. I try to grab one of the four blankets we have and pull it toward me only to have my hand slip and bonk me in the jaw!! So, now, still no blanket and my jaw hurts and I am really cold. You would think I would put a fricken sleeping bag on the bed and be done with it but no...I still keep hitting myself in the face. Then I wake up grumpier than normal.

Now that I got this off my chest, I am going to look for a snowmobile suit and a football helmet to sleep in.

Bye!

Boys and hair

My five year old seems to identify people by the color of their hair. If I ask him about a classmate, he says, "Oh, he has hair like me "or "She has dark pigtails."

He does the same thing with his grandparents. He does not call them by their names such as 'grandma so and so' like I did when I was a kid, but he says, "The grandma with the white hair or the grandma with the dark hair?"

It just so happens that my in-laws both have dark hair and both of my parents have white hair. I am glad he calls me "mom" and not "Mom with the multicolored hair when are you going to the salon?"

A few years ago, my nephew who rarely talks to me because he is shy, was sitting next to me at a table in a food court. I had just cut my hair and he kept staring at me. Finally, he said, "You cut your hair, didn't you?" I said, "Yes, and it is too short, isn't it?" He nodded. I said it would grow back. He was only six at the time. I am always amazed at boys and how they notice girls hair even at such a young age.

Things I really do not like to do

Sorry to all of you who do not like lists, but in all fairness, I have not done one in awhile so it is time!

Things I really do not like to do
1. House cleaning - the reason I hate...I mean...do not like this is because it does not stay clean. If it would just stay clean I would not mind it so much.

2. Clipping my toenails...do not know why it bothers me so much, but it does.

3. Touching any kind of food once it has passed the stage of not being eaten. If it is cold, or wet from rinsing the plate and it's in the sink...yuk!

4. Smelling any food with ketchup or tomato in it.

5. Picking up doggie doo-doo

6. Calling about a problem with a bill or even ordering a pizza...do not like talking to strangers on the phone!

7. I will not answer the door if I do not know who it is or if I am not expecting someone. With my poor sight and hearing, it is not worth it.

8. Getting up early for any reason (early for me is six a.m....for me a good time to get up is 7:30).

9. Going to an doctor and they do not listen or believe what I say.

10. Waiting in line to check out...I am here to spend money but I have to wait! This makes no sense to me.

Some of these I have mentioned before but I still do not like doing them. I am sure there are more but ten is enough.
